ASL B&L Faculty team’s reorganisation of responsibilities
Alison Sharman will leave the department at the end of August to take up a post at the University of Huddersfield. Alison has worked with us for 16 years, we will be sorry to lose her and we wish her well in her new role.
We will not be replacing Alison. The ASL B&L Faculty team will cover Alison’s subject-specific responsibilities as follows, with the help of ASL colleagues from other teams who will help out where necessary. Her non-subject-specific duties will be redistributed as indicated.
Helen will be responsible for: the MSc HRM (Hull and Lincoln); MSc Commissioning; IMDP; and PhD training.
Lesley T and Martin will be responsible for: the IMMP; FT UG Business; FT UG European Business; and FT UG Management.
Research workshops in September will be covered by Daren, Katie and Marie. RefWorks workshops in September will be covered by Judith and Lesley T. The PG research student enrolment event in September will be covered by Judith with Oonagh as back up. Lesley T will take over membership of the British Business Schools’ Librarians’ Group (BBSLG). Marie will take over the co-ordination of the British Library trips. Paul will take over membership of the Lincolnshire Information Services Network (LISN).
British Library trips for Semester B
Two trips to the BL for Semester B have now been arranged:
- Feb 4th (slips must be in by 3pm on 27th Jan)
- Feb 18th (Slips must be in by 3pm on 10th Feb)
The trips will leave from the library (last time the trips went from the side road adjacent to the Engine Shed due to the building works) at 8-15am. They will return back to the university at around 6pm. Students must book a place at the ground floor library desk. If a booking is being taken at Riseholme/Holbeach it is essential that whoever takes the booking rings through to the ground floor library desk so that their name/s can be added to the master list.
It is essential that students fill out slips prior to their visit. These must be returned to myself the week before the trip – for the exact dates, see above. Please can staff at Riseholme/Holbeach post these slips directly to the British Library rather than sending them down for me to post at Brayford. Please check that the shelf number (required for journals as well as books); date of visit, name, address and tel number of student is stated on the forms.
More information and guidance is available on the Portal at https://portal.lincoln.ac.uk/C0/C9/BLTrips/default.aspx, including help sheets instructing student on how to fill out the forms as well as how to prepare for their visit and what to expect on the day.
Thank-you
Alison
British Library trips for semester B
Quick message to say that I’ve just emailed the British Library to see if we can book two trips for semester B – Wed 4th Feb and Wed 18th Feb. I finish in less than one hour for my Christmas break so won’t know until Jan if they can fit us in. Will need to book the minibus too. Will let you know the outcome.
Also, just to let everyone know that I’m on jury service from 5th Jan 09 (hoping for a juicy case to get my teeth into!) probably for two weeks, so won’t be back until Mon 19th Jan.
Hope you all have a great Christmas and see you in the new year!

BL’s new Web site and catalogue
The British Library have redesigned their Web site, which now contains prominent links to the BL’s presence on various social networking/media sites. They are also developing a new Ex Libris Primo search interface for their catalogue. (Spotted on Lorcan Dempsey’s weblog.)
The next trip to the British Library is on…
Wednesday 19th November!
I’ve put a new sheet into the British Library folder so students can book their place. Please remember to get £5 off them before you book them in! Also, I need the slips by 3-30pm on Monday 10th Nov.
More info is on the Portal at https://portal.lincoln.ac.uk/C0/C9/BLTrips/Pages/Lincoln.aspx

Welcome to the third edition of the Learning Resources staff newsletter. Many thanks to all who entered the competition to name the newsletter. We had many responses, even the Vice Chancellor entered into the spirit of things. The winner was ‘The Buzz’ entered by Alison Sharman and she wins a bottle of wine for her effort.
